Week 3 Power Rankings
Well I just lost a heart breaker...150 to 149, with the winning points scored with under 2 minutes in the monday night game. Since I'm awake anyways, here's the rankings for week 3:
1. Miami Dolphins (7, Won vs. Blue Hens, now 3-0) Some will say Avengers should be here, some Cuse, some still Dukes. But Dolphins has knocked off 2 of the top teams in the league, and has done it with the highest scoring team to date.
Pros: LJ and JJ do it again at RB, with Lendale White pitching in as well. The Ravens Defense nearly went for 50. And Brandon Freakin Lloyd even contributed, going for a shocking 32.
Cons: Ocho Cinco and "The New Easy" Eddie Royal combined for 8 points. I still doubt this team can last, but given the lead in points and 2 huge upsets (Dukes and Blue Hens) I have to give them the 1 spot for now.
2. Pittsburgh Dukes (1, Lost vs. Avengers, now 1-2) Lots of chinks are showing in the armor, but I think Dukes turns it back around.
Pros: Again, 2 losses, still the third highest scoring team (behind Dolphins and Avengers). Nice of SJax to show up this week (25 pts) and good games from the Farve/Brees tandem (49 pts combined).
Cons: Shaky QB situations are killing this team. Randy Moss (Cassel), Hines Ward (injured Rothlisberger) and Winslow (Incredibly ineffective D.A.) combined for next to nothing in pts, contributing greatly to this week's loss. And I know people will give me shit for putting a one win team at the 2 spot. But check out that talent...this team is too good to keep losing games.
3. Cape Canaveral Avengers (5, Won vs. Dukes, now 3-0) Okay, so you beat Dukes. Who hasn't? (kidding).
Pros: Reggie Bush looks like the real deal (39 pts) and Brandon Marshall most certainly is the real deal (37).
Cons: Ted Ginn? Javon Walker? LJ Smith? Imagine how great this team would be if the starting lineup didn't have these chumps in it. That being said, Avengers is probably a more suprising 3-0 than Dolphins but has also beaten lesser teams, and so they sit at spot 3.
4. Delaware Blue Hens (2, Lost vs. Dolphins, now 1-2) Somewhere in America, Cuse's owner is shouting WTF at me. Delaware is 4th in pts and has lost to 2 amazing teams. 198 team pts should win most fantasy games.
Pros: Addai, Lynch, and Forte combined for 99 fantasy pts. Is there a better fantasy backfield in this league (you don't count Fins)?
Cons: Everyone played pretty well, but the Browns struggles are killing this team (Braylon and Phil Dawson combined for 9 pts). Donovan McNabb's injury has gotta be scary as well, as I doubt Brian Griese repeats last week's performance.
5. Syracuse Crush (4, Won vs. Colts, now 3-0) So you're 3 and 0. Best team you beat was Yarddogs...let's see what real competition does to you (like say Dukes next week).
Pros: Houshmandzadeh finally shows up. Just as fun to watch as his name is to spell, it's nice to have him back in fantasy relevance.
Cons: One pattern people may have noticed is my dislike for Willie Parker. Well this week he went for a whopping 4 pts. Told you so.
6. Scotland Yarddogs (3, Won vs. Browns, now 2-1) Nice (LUCKY!) in division win puts Yarddogs up one with the tiebreaker. Not too shabby.
Pros: Marion Barber kept it up and Michael Turner did it again, very nice job by the backs. And Jericho Cotchery has gotta be this week's fantasy MVP...needed at least 15 pts for the win and got exactly 15 pts...damn.
Cons: Man Roethlisberger was ineffective, scoring only 2 pts. But there's a lot more bad plays here, given Crayton and Zach Miller's combined 0 pts.
7. Louisville Juggarnauts (6, Won vs. Jets, now 1-2) As I said about Blue Hens last week...it's not a very impressive win, but it's a win, and that's never a bad thing.
Pros: Get on me all you want for ranking this team too high, but he still has the 6th most pts, and has many many dangerous players. Like Carson Palmer, who finally showed up this week.
Cons: Westbrook being hurt and Grant still slacking hurt this team's overall score. But if all these great players ever have a good week at the same time, this team could put up incredible numbers, trust me.
8. Pawtucket Colts (8, Lost vs. Cuse, now 1-2) Second week in a row that Colts lost to a team he really should have beaten.
Pros: Not a lot of good this week, although the Falcons Defense played surprisingly well.
Cons: I don't care if he was just shot 27 times. You don't bench LT if he's playing, and it showed this week when LT scored 29 on the bench and his replacement, Ray Rice, scored 4. IF LT starts Colts wins, and this team really can't afford to keep making decisions that cost games like that.
9. Gotham City General Assaults (9, Won vs. SC, now 1-2) So a win isn't a win when it comes against the worst team in the league. But some of Gotham's great players finally showed up to play and put a pretty nice weekly score.
Pros: McGahee, Fitzgerald and Coles all went over 20 pts, as did J.T. O'Sullivan. And of course Clinton Portis did again too.
Cons: Courtney Taylor was a bad play given the signing of Billy McMullen and trade for Keary Colbert, but otherwise this team showed flashes this week, and I wouldn't count them out of the AFC South race yet (I don't care how many pts Avengers has, this team is pretty talented).
10. Atlanta Browns (10, Lost vs. Yarddogs, now 1-2) Wow, maybe it'll be a division after all. Who knew Jugs, Yarddogs and Browns would all score so similarly? Not me.
Pros: Maurice Jones Drew, Dukes "guy who is going to have a bad year" went for 38 pts. Nice of Chris Cooley to add a few as well finally.
Cons: Roy Williams' 3 (lack of targets) and D.A.'s 7 (geez how the mighty have fallen) really hurt Browns a lot this week. And seeing Jabar Gaffney's 16 on the bench might hurt most of all (who knew he'd finally catch a ball?).
11. New York Jets (11, Lost vs. Jugs, now 1-2) This team continues to show that while a few pieces are in place, way too many aren't.
Pros: Greg Jennings was great, as was Josh Scobee.
Cons: Thomas Jones did nothing thanks to a Chargers blowout, and that pats offense continues to suck after Brady's sudden departure.
12. SC Showstoppers (12, Lost vs. Gotham, now 0-3) And being the only 0 and 3 team basically guarantees you the bottom spot. Nowhere to go but up, right?
Pros: Frank Gore. Roddy White. Would you expect anyone else on this team to score big?
Cons: Okay, maybe Garrard (8 pts) or Gates (11). But an injured Sidney Rice, Benjamin Watson, Texans Defense...all bad plays, all bad results.
Record on Last Week's Predictions: 3-3 (Can I get bonus pts for saying Dogs would beat me but that'd it'd be reaaaaally close?)
Record on Season's Predictions: 4-7
Week 4 Predictions:
Browns over Jets (Plax sits for Browns, but so do all of Jets QBs...that sucks).
Yarddogs over Colts
Blue Hens over Generals (though closer than you'd think)
Dukes over Cuse (all those missing Giants will kill Cuse this week)
Jugs over SC
And in my pick for game of the week, the 3-0 Dolphins over the 3-0 Avengers. One, because this justifies my rankings. And 2, because Jay Cutler is going to have a heck of a game against KC's rookie cornerbacks (though so is Brandon Marshall, his key target and one of Avengers' best players. And Dolphins is sitting 2 of his top players...so....damn this should be a game).
