Season’s End/Playoffs Begin Power Rankings: Wow…what a week. Dukes pulls out a 2 point win, Avengers pulls out a 5 point win, Jets wins by 4…now that’s what I call fantasy football. The rankings:
1. Pittsburgh Dukes (1, Won versus SC, finished 8-5, now faces Avengers in the first round of the playoffs) Huge win. Would have gotten in with a loss thanks to Avengers win but AP showed up when it counted and proved that you can never count a team with SJAX and AP out. Pros: AP 32, SJAX 21, and 9 of 12 went into double digits. Cons: Kevin Smith’s 5 and Moss’ 9 both hurt, but with 93 pts on the bench and some easier teams coming up for the Pats, things should get better. Dukes scored 191 pts in a bad week…look out Avengers, you’re toast in round 1.
2. New York Jets (3, Won versus Colts, finished 9-4, now has a first round bye) Facing a good team desperate for a win, Jets also pulled out a squeaker, and in convincing fashion. Pros: Slaton ran away with 48 pts and Thomas Jones added 43. And Fred Taylor had 20 on the bench while Sammy Morris has 17. How many running backs can I team have? Cons: Same as last week…a couple players played huge but half the team was in single digits and the kicker got a whopping 0 pts. You wonder how long this team could make it with guys like Matt Cassel scoring 2 pts in some weeks. But when you get 91 pts from 2 players weekly…do you really need much else?
3. Miami Dolphins (4, Won versus Blue Hens, finished 9-4, now has a first round bye) Well what do you know? I assume Dolphins was done for and then he shows up. 217 pts is convincing, let’s see it again in 2 weeks. Pros: Ravens DEF is on fire, and guys like whiny Lendale White and LJ actually showed up this week. Cons: Only 2 players in single digits (Santana Moss’ 9 and Rian Lindell’s -4). And Eddie Royal’s 22 sat on the bench, though that couldn’t have hurt too bad. Maybe Fins has a pulse after all.
4. Syracuse Crush (5, Won versus Louisville, finished 7-6) Cuse keeps scoring in the 200’s win or lose and Dogs keeps winning with 160’s. Not too hard to rank Crush as the better team at this point because of that. Pros: Always helps to own a good DEF, and the Titans showed that by scoring 44 pts this week. And TO did well for a second straight week…wow…good to have you back dude. Cons: Vincent Jackson had 0, so that sucks. But scarier for Cuse (and part of why I think they’re only the 4th best team) is that so much of the weekly scores depend on the NY Giants playing well. And with 2 pretty good defenses coming up in the form of Philly and Dallas, Cuse may see his pts suffer, along with his playoff run ending. But not this week.
5. Scotland Yarddogs (2, Won versus Browns, finished 8-5, now faces Cuse in round 1) Again, another win, but another unimpressive win. I have a lot of love for Dogs as a fellow AFC sucker, but you wonder just how far consistent 160 scores can take you. Pros: Bernard Berrian and his 99 yard TD gained 30 pts for Dogs. When you figure that’s almost a 5th of the total score (and that Berrian scored 0 last week) you can see why Dogs is in trouble. Cons: 5 of 12 in single digits and only 3 players over 20 pts won’t do it come playoff time. Unless guys like Turner go off again this coming week, Dogs will be going home. Sorry, it’s the destiny of all teams in the NFC Suck.
6. Cape Canaveral Avengers (8, Won versus Avengers, finished 7-6, now faces Dukes in round 1) Ranked 6 out of necessity, as I still think SC is the better team. But you impressed and made the playoffs so you get 6th. Sadly the run ends here against a much better Dukes team. Pros: Chris Johnson’s 38 was nice, as were 20’s by Antonio Bryant and the Eagles DEF. Cons: With 4 of 12 in single digits and 8 of 12 under 12, Avengers just isn’t scoring enough pts to compete anymore. Nice win against a fading team to get in, but you’re done now.
7. SC Showstoppers (6, Lost versus Dukes, finished 7-6, now faces Gotham in the consolation) And what a show it was. I was pulling for it and it almost happened…a 3 pt swing = an SC playoff berth. But that’s just how it goes. Better luck next year. Pros: DeAngelo Williams’ 40 was nice, as were a couple of 20s. Cons: TEs combined for 7 pts and Vinatieri went for 1. With a bunch of single digits on the bench, SC clearly squeezed as much talent out of this team as he could. But there’s only so much you can do.
8. Pawtucket Colts (10, Lost versus Jets, finished 6-7, now face Blue Hens in the consolation) Oooo a pulse. Too little too late though. Pros: Westbrook went for a wild 50. In random news, he totally clinched me a playoff spot in another league with said 50. Cons: 5 under 10 and the DEF went for -2…this team will be great next year but for now it will struggle to win in the consolation round over a lue Hens team on the rise.
9. Delaware Blue Hens (9, Lost versus Fins, finished 5-7-1, now face Colts in the consolation) Well I was wrong and Fins finally took care of business. But Blue Hens put on a decent show and hey, at least you’re only the third worst team right? Pros: McNabb had 33 and Forte had 30. Cons: 5 single digits with 0’s from Vernon Davis and Chris Chambers.
10. Gotham City Generals (7, Lost versus Avengers, finished 7-6, now face SC in the consolation) For the third week in a row, all Gotham had to do was win to get in. But as they say in Gears of War, “you should’ve won, but you lost.” That kind of hurtin loses you a lot of spots in the rankings this week. Pros: Peyton Hillis led the team with 31. When Peyton Hillis leads you team in pts you’re definitely not in a good place. Cons: And now Laveranues Coles gets a 0. And Portis had 7. And this team is getting destroyed this week by an angry SC Showstoppers. 11. Louisville “” (11, Lost versus Cuse, finished 2-10-1, now fact Browns in the consolation) So it has come down to you and it has come down to me. Tried to spoil but couldn’t, now let’s see who has a shittier roster Louie. Pros: Cowboys DEF and Tony Romo both had 29 pts, not too shabby. Cons: Half the team was in single digits and Peyton/Wayne combined for 13 pts. That’s usually like one play’s worth of pts for the duo…damn that Browns DEF is playing well right now.
12. Atlanta Browns (12, Lost versus Yarddogs, finished 2-11, now face Louisville in the consolation) If you can’t score you can’t win. Pros: Bills DEF has 27, John Carlson blew up for 21. Then there were 6 guys between 11 and 13 pts. Cons: 3 pts from the RBS (including WR/RB) and another 0 from Gaffney will do you in. Ouch man, ouch.
Record on Last Week's Predictions: 3-3 Record on Season's Predictions: 34-35-1
Playoffs?!? Who said anything about Playoffs?!? Predictions The Ones that Count: Cuse over Yarddogs Dukes over Avengers Consolation: SC over Gotham Colts over Delaware Louisville over Browns
Season End Awards Coach of the Year: Dolphins – he’s been highly ranked all year and he’s been doing it mostly with smoke and mirrors because I’ve never liked his roster. But it keeps working out for him and so I gotta give him props.
Biggest Surprise: Avengers – I hated this team coming into the season and expected them to clinch the cellar early, but that changed very quickly. Decent run and a close win led to a playoff berth, which was definitely a surprise.
Biggest Disappointment: Louisville – I expected this team to win the division and potentially go super bowl. Instead he’s battling me for the first pick of next year’s draft. Injuries are a bitch.
Comeback of the Year Award: SC – I hated this team the first half of the year because he never updated. He finally started to update and started to win…it’s just a shame he started an injured Damon Huard in a couple of games, because otherwise we might have SC in the playoffs right now instead of Avengers.

I'd like to see the 2009 predictions, factoring in all the teams that sold next year off by trading for players for this season. Or the opposite, the team that traded all the players for the picks.

Well Gotham traded me all his picks for players. So he'd probably be 12th. Me - #1 (just kidding, probably more like 7 or 8)

Regular Season WrapUp Rankings Pittsburgh Dukes 0.0341 (Most PF by 350, 2nd most PA, and a winning record. Odds on favorite to win it all) Miami Dolphins 0.0136 (Tied for best record, 175+pts in 8/13 weeks, capable of winning the AFC crown easily) Delaware Blue Hens 0.0117 (Better than record suggests, playing in the ultra tough AFC North did this team in) Scotland YardDogs 0.0114 (More PA than PF. Team scored 150+pts in 11/13 weeks. Consistent but not dominant, still a challenger) New York Jets 0.0110 (three best scoring weeks all in last three weeks, team is peaking at the right time) Cape Canaveral Avengers 0.0105 (survived the AFC South on points, but with Anderson going down, hopes for a playoff win are slim) S.C. Showstoppers 0.0085 (a playoff team until a 2pt loss in week 13 with the league's 2nd worst offense, no explanation for that one) Pawtucket Colts 0.0081 (Bulger, LT struggles cost the Colts, 3rd most PA didn't help) Syracuse Crush 0.0066 (last three weeks all 180+pts, another team peaking at playoff time) Gotham City Generals 0.0062 (like Dumbass Burress, this team shot up its playoff chances by losing 4 of its last 5) Louisville Juggarnauts 0.0030 (early injuries killed the Juggs chances, but 10/13 150+pt weeks suggest hope) Atlanta Browns 0.0020 (nearly 1000pts behind Dukes in the PF column, this team needs an enema, a GM not named Millen, and more faith in the Dogs to represent)

Hahaha sorry dude, I am pulling for the Burner to score big, but it might not be enough. Remember, Cuse just about always loses when I pick him to win so that bodes well for you Dogs. Haha and shoot, I was just about to hire Millen as an advisor...mannn now what am I gonna do?

I probably had the least picks last year as they were all traded away when I took over. Finished above expectations. Never played in a league with this many teams starting 2 QBs. So maybe next year will be better or maybe not. We will see. By the way Portis and Fitzgerald are officially on the block for picks next year

Ooo I'd like Portis. Tell me what I gotta do.
And I definitely had the least picks since I traded them all..next year will be interesting with guys like me and you having a year under our belts.

Playoffs Round 2 Ranks: Brief rankings since it's playoffs and I got a job to go to. Just the playoff teams:
Fins vs. Avengers - Fins. Great win for Avengers using that amazing day by Antonio Bryant. But you can't win with only one QB twice in a row, and I don't see Bryant scoring 52 pts again this week. It's been a good run, but look for Fins, led by the Ravens DEF, to go to the Championships.
Jets vs. Yarddogs - Yarddogs. This one looks real close on paper, but a look at Jets' guys brings up questions. Cassel might not even play. Slaton pulls the Titans run defense. As for the Dogs? Stewart faces the Denver Broncos lack of DEF. I expect another huge day for him and a mild upset win for the Dogs.
Regular Season's Predictions: 34-35-1 Playoffs (So far): 0-2 (To be fair I picked both upper seeds to win...so upsettts)
